I hope everyone had a nice long weekend and enjoyed a sunny Sunday.  Students were excited to be back in the classroom and learning new things!

In Math this week, we continue to play number sense building games and creating and solving simple story problems.  At this point studnts should be able to solve simple addition and subtraction problems using manipulatives to help. We will also continue to practice making graphs and interpreting the data.

Our new science unit is all about wood and paper. Do you know how paper is created? What around us is made from wood? We will be learning about everything wood and paper in the upcoming weeks.

Friday’s Spirit Day theme is…Crazy Hair Day!

Spring Picture Day has been moved from April 16th to April 27th.

Have a great week!

Welcome Back!
It has been great to hear students share stories from their Spring Breaks. We even shared them by writing sentences and drawing pictures to match the words.
In reading we continue to learn new sight words including our newest: who are they she good and.  Only five more to go on the list for the year! We have continued reviewing ALL letters and letter sounds. Students are becoming great readers! Remember to read the decodable books that are sent home. They are yours to keep. Reminder, due to Good Friday, there is no school this Friday.

Have a Great Week!

This week we have been reviewing our calendar skills. This includes practicing the months of the year, days of the week, and seasons in a year. Ask your child to tell you all of them.

Friday’s Spirit Theme is “Math Day”. Encourage your child to wear clothing with numbers on it!

Have a great week!

Weekly Update - Week of 3/9

March 11, 2009

The newest word wall words we have learned are:

what out who are they

Some students are having difficulty with the “w” words we have learned. They are what, who, where, we, and want. Please review these words with your child at home.

We are also learning to say hello in four different languages during social studies. Ask your students to say hello in Spanish, Hebrew, Japanese, and Arabic. They are really excited to say “hello” to everyone they see!

In math we are reviewing concepts by playing counting and adding games like “toss the chips” and racing bears”. Ask your child what math game they like best and why.

Report cards will be sent home this Friday. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Have a great week!

Due to Monday and Tuesday being snow days, homework given out on Wednesday is due back upon completion.  :)

This Friday’s Spirit Day is “Backwards Day”. Friday is also the last day of the 4th marking period. Report cards will be sent home on Friday, March 13th. If you see an area where your child is receiving a “KI” (Kindergarten Improvement Needed), please focus on that area with him/her. If the grade does not improve by the 5th marking period I will need to meet with you to discuss your child’s progress.

Have a great week!

This Friday is Carrie Downie’s ABC Day. We will be having an assembly in the morning to reward students for their ABC behavior. ABC stands for always be careful, always be caring, and always be courteous. To celebrate, please have your child wear their Carrie Downie spiritwear or blue and white.  There will also be a “Say No to Drugs” performance by Kinderman.

Have a great week!

Twin Day - 2/20

February 19, 2009

This week’s SPIRIT DAY is Twin Day. Students can dress alike and look like “twins” with a friend. Since many kindergarteners do not know each other outside of school, I have told the class what I am wearing, so we can all dress alike! Many staff (including me) will be wearing blue jeans and a black top.  I will also have my Carrie Downie blue and white sweatshirt if it gets cold! Next Friday’s SPIRIT DAY is Carrie Downie color day.

This Friday’s spirit theme is “Twin Day”. Students can pair up and dress alike. I will be wearing my blue and white Carrie Downie sweatshirt if your child would like to be “twins” with me!

This week’s newest word wall words are “we” and “want”.

Have a great week!
